Drainage problems show up as water standing by the foundation, a soggy yard that never dries, or runoff cutting across a driveway. The fix is usually grading the ground so water moves where it should, sometimes with pipe or a culvert to carry it.

Local conditions
Angi's Orlando guide describes sandy soil, high water tables, tropical downpours that saturate the ground, and daily summer thunderstorms that can halt equipment. It calls proper grading critical for directing water away from foundations during hurricane season.
Warning signs worth a closer look
WKMG's 2025 sinkhole explainer lists water pooling near the foundation, changed drainage and depressions in the yard among the outdoor warning signs of a sinkhole, and also names storm drain leaks, utility main breaks and erosion as common look-alikes. If a low spot is new or growing, find out why before regrading over it.

Bigger sites
At 1 acre or more of disturbance, with runoff reaching surface waters or a storm sewer, Florida DEP's Construction Generic Permit kicks in. The operator writes a stormwater pollution prevention plan and files the Notice of Intent and fee at least 2 calendar days before work, and a Notice of Termination within 14 days of final stabilization.
